Down through the ages there has been many myths about what hypnosis is.Many people consider hypnosis as a form of sleep, where upon the subject is under total control of the hypnotist, and that they will carry out,or feel compelled to carry out any suggestions given to them by the person delivering the hypnosis.
The fact is:-That a person in the state of hypnosis is fully aware of all that is being said to them. And a person will do nothing that will deprive them against their moral judgements, for example:-If the hypnotist were to ask a person how much money they had in the bank, they would certainly not tell you,and more than probably pull themselves out of the trance state, and could become quite hostile towards the hypnotist or therapist. This would certainly apply to all immoral suggestions given,as a person could bring themselves out of the trance state very easily
Other myths being only certain people can be hypnotised, this meaning the weak willed, and that strong willed people can never be hypnotised, this is totally absurd, any person can be hypnotised to some depth or another. And its a fact that the more a person has the ability to concentrate, the easier they can be induced into the trance state. It must be made perfectly clear that a person undergoing hypnosis is no robot or under the control of the hypnotherapist. It is totally a combined effort and trust between the subject and the hypnotherapist.
Yet another myth is that a person can be hypnotised against ones will.No person can be hypnotised against their will as:-All hypnosis is self hypnosis. There is no such thing as the magic eye,or magic touch on the back of the neck. This type of procedure is for the hypnotic entertainer, who has already tested his audience, and knows his best and most susceptable subjects before he begins his spectacular performance of induction. Some of these techniques are quite rapid in affect, and designed for entertainment purposes only.Hypnotic entertainment has absolutely no connection to hypnotherapy whatsoever.
